I like the competition, says Mayank Agarwal
India opener Mayank Agarwal is one of
the most talented batsmen in the circuit. He had a great season in the previous
edition of the IPL in the UAE where he
smashing 424 runs in 11 matches for the Punjab Kings which came at an average
of 38.54 and strike rate of 156.45.
His scores also included one hundred and
a couple of fifties as well. However, with the competition for the opener’s
position increased in the Indian team, he often found himself out of the
playing XI across formats. Recently, he talks about how this competition has
inspired him to do his best and how a good show in the IPL can help him as
well.
“It is wonderful that the IPL is back in
India. Although we will miss the crowd, playing in India will be thrilling. I
have been working hard on my fitness and skills in Bengaluru. The T20 format
demands top fitness and sharp skills. Once we hit the nets, we will be in the
groove. In the last IPL, I did well. I hope to make the most of the chance this
season too. Every year IPL provides a big stage for cricketers to showcase
talent; my eyes are also fixed at doing well for Punjab Kings,” he said.

When he was asked whether a good show in
the IPL helps him in getting a place for the upcoming T20 World T20 in October,
Agarwal replied that he will look to make the best use of chances in the IPL
and try to win the title as well. And, as far as T20 World Cup is concerned, he
isn’t thinking about it is quite far but he also stated that he would like to
make an impression as well.
Meanwhile, Agarwal was grateful to the
Head Coach of the Punjab Kings and the former spin maestro Anil Kumble for
sharing his experience and giving him invaluable inputs with the entire team.
The right-handed batsmen form a great pairing with KL Rahul at the top of the
order for Punjab Kings and they are looking forward to doing that once again in
the IPL 2021.
