Rohit Sharma believes if bowlers are executing plans well, it's easy for captain

 


Mumbai Indians didn’t have a good start in the 14th edition of the Indian premier League (IPL). However, Mumbai Indians skipper Rohit Sharma said that if bowlers are executing their plan well then it makes it easy for the captain. His comments came after they beat Sunrisers Hyderabad by 13 runs at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.

However, Rohit gave the credit to his team’s bowling unit, which led by the youngster Rahul Chahar (3/19) and Trent Boult (3/28), for the win as well.

“It was a great effort from the bowling unit. We knew it was not going to be easy and when you have a pitch like that and the bowlers are executing the plans, it makes it easy for the captain to maneuver the field and keep having those options of your bowling changes,” the captain said at the post-match presentation.

Sunrisers Hyderabad managed to restrict Mumbai Indians to 150/5, courtesy Vijay Shankar (2/19) put up a stunning show, but they were bowled out for 137 in 19.4 overs to lose their third match on the trot as well. And, according to Rohit, 150/5 was a good score on the Chepauk track as well.

“I thought it was a good score on that pitch and the way we came out and bowled and showed that attitude on the field was very important, it was great team performance. We can bat a little better in the middle overs,” he added.

On the other hand, Mumbai Indians did exceptionally well in the fielding department and Rohit Sharma applauded the team’s effort too.

“And again, I thought our fielding was pretty good today, those two runs-outs, few catches, that is something we take a lot of pride in. We want to be the best fielding unit in the competition and (are) making sure that we tick all the boxes, so far we have picked few boxes, there are few more left,” he concluded.

Devdutt Padikkal happy to score a hundred in IPL

  After scoring his maiden IPL hundred, Royal Challengers Bangalore’s young batsman Devdutt Padikkal said that he was keen to contribute for his team's win after he missed the first game of the ongoing league due to COVID-19.
