Kuldeep Yadav can get the confidence back by playing Test, says Salman Butt

Former Pakistan captain Salman Butt has recently shared that India spinner Kuldeep Yadav is short of confidence and he can get back his rhythm by playing in the longest format as well. Notably, the young spinner has been going through a rough patch who found it difficult to get a place in the playing XI in India's recent series as well.

He was dropped from the Test squad for the upcoming World Test Championship (WTC) final against New Zealand and then the five-match Test series against England as well. However, Butt, has reckoned that not getting to play many matches in the longer format has hampered his rhythm. However, he called Kudeep a "quality bowler" and also suggested that he should get back to domestic cricket to get back his form again.

"At times, lesser appearances in the longer format haunt you. When you keep playing the shorter formats continuously, your line and length tend to get affected because you're always thinking of getting through your over’s as soon as possible," Butt said on his Youtube channel.

"The longer format teaches you skill and control. Haven't seen much of them in the Tests in the past. Ashwin and other spinners are usually preferred. I believe left-arm spinner Kuldeep Yadav is short on confidence. He can get the confidence, with which he used to bowl, back by playing the longest format. A good Ranji season will do him a world of good. Quality does not go anywhere, it is all about form," Butt concluded.

Meanwhile, Kuldeep Yadav didn’t get many chances in India’s last home series against England. He played two ODI matches before being left out again for the third and decider match. In the two matches he had played, he gave away 68 and 84 runs without picking up any wicket as well. Later, he also did not feature in any of Kolkata Knight Riders' (KKR) seven games in the recently suspended IPL 2021 as well.
