Dilip Vengsarkar wants R Ashwin back for limited-overs cricket

Image
Although the Indian Cricket Team has plenty of options when it comes to players, the Indian spinners failed to live up to the expectations in the recently-concluded ODI series against England at home. In the second ODI against England, Kuldeep Yadav and Krunal Pandya ended up conceding 156 runs in 16 overs that cost India the game, as England chased down 337 with six wickets and 39 balls in hand as well. After seeing this, former India chief selector Dilip Vengsarkar expressed his thoughts. While there are not many experienced players left in the team, and not too many around in the domestic circuit, he wants the experienced R Ashwin back in the limited-overs circuit, and further added that if he was the selector of the Indian cricket team right now, he would have done it as well. “If I were the chief selector (now), I would have brought Ashwin back (to the white ball set-up). Why not? Because he is such an experienced bowler and he has variety. As they say, spinners mature ...

Variations essential in white-ball cricket, shares Shardul Thakur

Image
Indian Cricket Team has found a great all-rounder in the form of Shardul Thakur who along with Bhuvneshwar Kumar played a key part as India beat England by seven runs in the third and the final ODI to clinch the ODI series 2-1. While Shardul claimed four wickets in his 10 overs, Bhuvneshwar too scalped three wickets as well. Shardul was also impressive with the bat too as he scored a 21-ball 30 to help India put up a decent total. After the win, the duo got together in a chat and revealed some secrets of their success as well. “When I came to bowl 3 wickets had already gone, Dawid Malan and Jos Buttler seemed like they were in good form. I tried to take their wickets because they bat very deep. It is essential to bring in the variations in white-ball cricket. I try to bring in the cutters, slower-ball bouncers, etc to outfox the batsmen. We knew the batting lineup is strong and they will punish us if we don’t bowl well. Especially with this team,” Shardul said to Bhuvneshwa...

In a recent media interaction, Bhuvneshwar said: “Of course, red-ball cricket is in my radar. I will prepare keeping red ball in mind. Although what kind of team will be selected for Test matches is entirely different scenario. My workload management and training during IPL will be keeping red ball in mind because I know there’s a lot of Tests ahead and my priority still is Test cricket.” He further assured that from his end, he will do everything to get ready for the Test series. Notably, after the much-awaited Indian Premie...

Virat Kohli has played a key role in making KL Rahul what he is today, says Virender Sehwag

Image
Indian Cricket Team’s wicketkeeper-batsman KL Rahul was earlier going through a rough patch in the recently-concluded T20Is against England, but the scenario got changed in the ODIs soon after. With one half-century and a century, he has returned in the form and steadied the ship in the middle overs for Team India. And, former India’s swashbuckling opener Virender Sehwag , in an interview with Cricbuzz shared how his thinking has changed the batting in the middle-order. “When the openers come out to bat, the thought process is to cash in the first 10 overs. So, you get less time for yourself. Whenever I use to open the innings, I always use to think about whether I can make an impact in the first 10 overs, and cash in during the powerplay,” Sehwag said. “So, maybe that is the mentality of the openers. But when you bat in the middle overs, the thought is that I cannot forcefully hit boundaries because the field is open. So, I have to play in the gaps and score ones and twos...

Krunal Pandya is not the fifth bowler, believes Sunil Gavaskar

Image
Former India captain Sunil Gavaskar has shared that spin-bowling all-rounder Krunal Pandya can’t be India’s fifth bowler despite his ability to hit big lower down the order. The veteran commented that after India’s poor bowling performance in the second ODI which saw England beat the hosts by six wickets and more than six overs in hand as well. While speaking on Star Sports after the match, Gavaskar said: “I will say the Indian bowling was probably a little weak because Krunal Pandya cannot be your fifth bowler, he cannot be a bowler who bowls 10 overs. You need a bowler like Yuzvendra Chahal on such pitches, who can bowl 10 overs. Pandya brothers can bowl 10 overs together but if the Indian team has to perform well and win the next match they will have to think a lot about their fourth, fifth, and sixth bowlers.” He again shared that having a specialist spinner like Yuzvendra Chahal and Ravindra Jadeja could have helped the team win as they can bowl their ten overs spell an...

Sunil Gavaskar wants selectors to give chance to Prasidh Krishna in Tests

Image
Young Indian Cricket Team pace bowler Prasidh Krishna has just made his debut in the recently-concluded ODI series against England. While he had a dream debut, his bowling impressed many, including the former India opener Sunil Gavaskar, who feels that the pace bowler could be a great option for India in the longer format as well. “With those seam-up deliveries, he is someone the Indian selection committee must consider seriously for red-ball cricket (Tests) as well. Just like Jasprit Bumrah, from T20s and ODIs, has now become India’s premium bowler in the Test format, Prasidh Krishna , with his pace and the seam-up position could be a very, very good red-ball bowler as well,” said Gavaskar. However, Prasidh Krishna believes that he needs to improve while bowling with the new ball as he was seen struggling there. Although he claimed four wickets for 54 runs in the first ODI and two scalps for 58 in the second game, all his wickets came in his later spells and he was expensiv...

I have never played for 100s in my life, claims Virat Kohli

Image
Indian cricket team captain Virat Kohli has not scored an international century since November 2019. While he had the chance for a century in the second ODI against England in the recently-concluded series, he fell for 66 off 79 balls and later India eventually lost the game by six wickets as well. While there were a lot of talks going on for his century droughts, after the match, Kohli said that he does not care about personal milestones in the game. “I never played for 100s in my life, that’s probably why I ended up getting so many in such little time. It’s all about contributing to the team cause. If the team doesn’t win when you get three figures it doesn’t mean anything. That’s the way I have played and will continue to play as well. You’re not going to sit back at the end of your career and look at numbers, it’s more about how you played the game,” he said at the post match presentation. Apart from Kohli’s century, Hardik Pandya’s under-utilisation was another topic ...

He has just played 5 ODIs for the country and never played in the T20I format. Ishan Kishan, Suryakumar Yadav deserve to be in the Indian squad for the World Cup: VVS Laxman

Image
Team India handed over a few maiden caps across formats in the recently-concluded series against England and everyone stood out. However, former India player VVS Laxman believes that both Ishan Kishan and Suryakumar Yadav, who had dream debuts in the recently concluded T20I series against England, deserve to be in the Indian team for the upcoming T20 World Cup which is slated to be played later this year in India as well. “What we have seen in this series is that lot of youngsters have capitalized on their opportunities. But the way Ishan Kishan played in his debut innings and then also the way Suryakumar Yadav played, I think both of them will definitely be in my squad of 15. It’s a tough choice, but I think both of them deserve to play in the Indian squad come the World Cup,” said Laxman on Star Sports show Cricket Connected. Both Ishan Kishan and Suryakumar Yadav impressed everyone on their debuts. While Kishan smashed a stunning 56 on debut, Yadav in his two matches scor...

Deep Dasgupta opens up on Virat Kohli's century drought

Image
Despite India’s series win against England across formats, India captain Virat Kohli failed to register a century. Former India wicketkeeper-batsman Deep Dasgupta has recently opened up about Virat Kohli's hundred droughts in international cricket, citing that it’s only a matter of time. It is also noteworthy that, Virat Kohli has not scored an international hundred since the day-night Test against Bangladesh way back in November 2019. However, the Indian Cricket Team captain's century drought in the 50-over format stretches even more as he has not even scored the three-figure mark since his twin hundreds against West Indies in August 2019. And, since then, Virat has been struggling to convert his 50s into a three-figure score and the wait for another International ton continues as well. Moreover, this has been the longest period of time that Virat Kohli has passed in his international career where he has gone without scoring a century as well, although there were some ...

KL Rahul opens up on the competition for wicket-keepers in the Indian team

Image
Indian cricket team has plenty of options in their kitty for every position. Currently, both KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant has been a part of the team who both are considered as wicketkeeper-batsman as well. While KL Rahul had taken the responsibility of a wicket-keeper in the ODIs, replacing Pant, he had a successful stint as Pant was going through a tough time both with the bat and keeping gloves. And, Rahul soon paced up things and successfully replaced him in the team as well. However, currently, the situation is different as Pant has been in sublime form and Rahul too did well in the ODI series after having a poor T20I series. He slammed a 43-ball 62 in the first ODI against England whereas scored a century in the second as well. While addressing a press-conference, Rahul said, “When you are part of this Indian team, you always know competition would be really high. You can never sit back and feel comfortable like you own your position. That’s the good thing, our team ha...
